Chartered in 1973 as the Chair City Pipers, the chorus re-chartered in 2013 as the Surround Sound Chapter of Harmony, Incorporated. Our music has brought the joy of singing four-part close harmony to the lives of many North Central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire area women. We presently meet every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Wakefield Place Community Room at the corner of Pine and Cross Streets in Gardner, MA.
Weekly rehearsals include something for everyone: a mix of chorus and quartet singing, planning for shows, contests and other performances and general fellowship. Young or old, four-part harmony sung a cappella is a great way to share your desire to sing with three or thirty other women!
Each rehearsal is designed to foster the learning of a cappella singing in a highly supportive, non-threatening environment. Most of our singers have little or no formal training in music. The ability to read music is helpful but definitely not a prerequisite.
As a service organization, we are available for benefit performances for area civic groups. We also do performances, such as Singing Valentines or Happy Birthday, upon request for a small fee. Our mission is to sing, to promote and to educate others about harmony in the barbershop style but mostly to have fun!
We do enjoy going to our Area 2 competition each Spring to meet with friends from around New England, to attend classes related to barbershop harmony, and to take the stage during the competition. Our primary purpose at competition is not to win but to gain experience and simply sing for our friends and fellow chapters.
If you like to sing, please try singing with us. You can come to any open rehearsal, talk to any member, or contact Jan (jmlsings@yahoo.com) for further information. Everyone needs a hobby. Why not make enjoying 4-part harmony YOUR hobby!
